The Jewish graves of Wijk bij Duurstede
At the back of Wijk bij Duurstede cemetery is a section with old but reasonably well-maintained Jewish graves. Most graves are from the 19th century.
Apparently in the 18th and 19th cemetery there was a large Jewish community in Wijk bij Duurstede, at least large enough to have their own synagogue and two cemeteries. The synagogue and cemeteries were closed in the early 20th century, when the Jewish community had dwindled and merged with the Jewish community of nearby city Utrecht.
The cemeteries are now maintained by the municipality Wijk bij Duurstede.
